Making a 6 cell modification is one of the easiest and cost effective power upgrades you can do. It’s not quite as powerful as Lithium and considerably heavier, however if you’re short on cash then this might just be the project for you. If you are unsure about the wiring, just remember that you wire the cells in series. This means that the power must pass through each cell like Christmas tree lights.
Step 1
Remove the rear clip of the car. Remove the motor. Pull the black jumper wire (the wire that connects the 2 battery holders together) up and away from the electronics package. This is the wire that you will use later to put the new battery holder into the battery series.
Step 2
Take your extra 2 cell AAA Battery Holder and Clip the tabs off of the back. (If there is any wire on the holder, desolder it.)
Step 3
Now file those pieces down so that they are flush against the battery holder. The final product should look like this.
Step 4
Put some servo tape on the bottom of the battery harness. Make sure that you put the tape on the side of the holder that doesn’t have the solder points. Refer to the picture.
Step 5
Put the motor back into the car. Reconnect it to the Electronics Package. Remove the protective covering of the double sided tape and mount the holder on top of the EP. Make sure you leave room to remove the radio crystal in the future (or make sure you have the crystal in there that you want for the rest of the life of the car.)
Step 6
Take the jumper wire that connects your two original battery holders together and cut it in half. You should now have 2 wires, each one attached to one of the factory battery holders. Solder the wire that is attached to the positive side (non spring connection) to the connection on the new battery holder at the negative point (spring connection). Take the wire on the other stock battery holder (this one should be attached to the negative or spring side of the stock holder, attach it to the positive side (non spring) side of the new battery holder. When finished the wires should cross each other as pictured.
Step 7
All that’s left now is to put the Rear Clip back on the car and Enjoy.
