Tutorial 1:28 XMODS Evolution V2 Installation - Pro Ready

One of the single biggest inquiries we get at AtomicMods is how to install a V2 board on an XMOD EVO. The V2 is a great upgrade for XMODs, especially when you are running lithium batteries.

The following tutorial will show you how to install a V2 board on the EVO series of XMODs. More specifically, we will install the V2 with a pro-board harness in order to make your car Pro-Ready to run more powerful, lithium batteries.

It is very important that you look at and learn the wiring diagram on Step 1 to fully understand the terms used and steps taken to complete the installation. Aside from that, the tutorial is fairly simple and can be done in under an hour from beginning to end.

Required Items

  • Solder
  • Solder Wick
  • Soldering Iron
  • Side Cut Nippers
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Reamer
  • V2 Board
  • Sharpie
  • Razor Blade
  • AtomicMods Superflex wire
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Super Stick Tape

Step 1

Learn this diagram on the left. We will be referencing the terms used on this diagram to simplify the process of the installation.

Step 2

Start by removing the motor wires from the main board.

Step 3

Remove the screws from the motor strap.

Step 4

Out comes the motor!

Step 5

Now remove the screws from the top deck in order to expose the main board.

Step 6

Once exposed, find the red and black power wires coming from the batteries and unsolder them from the main board.

Step 7

Remove the screw holding down the main board.

Step 8

Flip the main board over and find the connections from the battery terminals and remove the wires. The picture on the left shows the location of the black wire.

Step 9

The red wire is located on the opposite side.

At this point the tutorial splits. If you are keeping the stock battery tray, continue on. If you are making your car Pro Ready, skip to step 33.

Step 10

Re-install your main board input wires.

Step 11

Now tin the original motor outputs with some solder.

Step 12

Take some small gauge wire (24-26 gauge should work) and solder it to the original motor power outputs.

Step 13

You need to modify the top deck slightly. Use a Unibit or a reamer to make a hole as shown on the left.

Step 14

This is what it should look like.

Step 15

Re-install the top deck of your XMOD.

Step 16

Next, position the V2 on your helping hands.

Step 17

Take some Superflex wire and install it on the motor output wires on your V2.

Step 18

Now install your pro-board harness.

Step 19

Now the tricky part. You must put the small gauge wire into the EP connection pads on the V2. The wires coming from the main board motor outputs go to the motor EP connections on the V2. Look at the diagram on step 1 for reference.

Step 20

Next, re-insert your crystal. It might be a little hard to get to once you tape the V2 board to the top deck of the car.

Step 21

Take some double sided tape and place it on the V2 as we did on the picture. Do a double layer on the part closer to you on the picture.

Step 22

Stick the V2 board to the top deck.

Step 23

Re-install the motor and solder the wires coming from the V2.

Step 24

Done! Your XMOD Evo is now ready for the Poly Pro installation. If you are curious on how to do the Poly pro installation follow this link.
